Food is the highest monthly expense for home-based childcare providers. The monthly reimbursement is disbursed on Tier Eligibility. The Tier Eligibility is determined according to the geographical or income eligibility of the home childcare. Ask how the children in your care may meet the Tier I eligibility requirement, even if you do not meet the geographical or income eligibility requirements as described below
Geographical eligibility - If a childcare home address is zoned to an elementary school that provides free or reduced meals to at least 50% of the children who attend the school, the childcare home will receive Tier I reimbursement for the children in childcare. To determine if you may be Tier I based on geographical eligibility, contact our office and provide the school district and elementary school that your address is zoned to.
Income eligibility - If a childcare home address household monthly income does not exceed the monthly Income Standards For Determining Nutrition Program Eligibility which is calculated after deducting the childcare business expense, the childcare home will receive Tier I reimbursement for the children in childcare. To determine if you may be Tier I based on income eligibility, see the Income Standards For Determining Nutrition Program.
